  • Madrid to host first International Festival of Light in October

Madrid, Jul 27 (EFE).- The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, announced Tueday that the capital will host next fall the celebration of the 1st Edition of the International Festival of Light. The festival will commemorate the recognition granted this Sunday to the Landscape of Light as World Heritage Site. Designers, architects and citizens themselves, will light up facades, squares, parks and streets, to achieve a total transformation of the environment that will allow visitors to see the city from another perspective while the festival is being held. (Camera: RAMON AYALA)SHOT LIST: SOUND BITES: MADRID MAYOR JOSE LUIS MARTINEZ-ALMEIDA (IN SPANISH)TRANSLATIONS:As Mónica Luejo, the director of the technical team, said. It is a moral and ethical requirement that we have towards the work that you have developed. It is a requirement and a commitment that we also have towards Luis Lafuente's team from the general direction of cultural heritage of the Madrid City Council, who have worked so hard. It is a commitment that we have towards all the people of Madrid. Let's celebrate! But now the real work begins, now the work begins, of bequeathing to the cultural delegations a world heritage site. No. a unique world heritage site such as this landscape of Light. And therefore the time has come for the city council to put all the necessary means so that future generations can continue to enjoy this wonderful city that I insist is reinventing itself every day.
