An elephant calf is discovered and pulled out of an uncovered drain near Sri Lanka's Hambantota port.

This wild baby elephant fell into a hole filled with mud while traveling with his herd in the Nilgiris Mountains in southern India. Trumpeting loudly in panic and fear, the elephant and his family alerted forest workers, who mounted a full scale rescue operation. Dozens of workers, tamed elephants, heavy vehicles, and a bulldozer worked five gruelling hours before finally freeing the trapped pachyderm.
This poor and clumsy young elephant fell down a 70-foot-deep well in southern India and would likely have died there if it weren't for the brave effort of rescue workers. The elephant calf alerted a nearby forest patrol to her plight by trumpeting anguished cries for help. The forest workers followed the sound and arrived to the well to find the animal shivering in fright. They called in a team of rescue workers to help lift the large animal to safety. A group of villagers and onlookers heard the commotion and decided to gather around the rescue workers and help out in the effort
