CNN reports President Donald Trump's associates are making appeals to him in the hopes of obtaining pardons before he leaves office. The appeals come on the heels of Trump's decision to pardon his former national security adviser, Michael Flynn. Nine individuals in Trump's orbit, including Flynn and GOP operative Roger Stone, have been indicted or found guilty of various criminal conspiracies. A source says one such individual asking for a free pass is Trump's personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani. Recently, Giuliani has been leading the President's longshot legal battles to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Prior to the election, Giuliani was actively seeking 'oppo research' on Hunter Biden for Biden's business dealings in Ukraine.
Having grudgingly green-lit the peaceful transfer of power, President Donald Trump is now perfectly poised to proceed with a parade of pardons. Trump has already commuted the sentence of his informal adviser Roger Stone. But what about Trump's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, who is still in home confinement serving out his prison sentence? Even more to the point, what about Trump himself? Trump has repeatedly asked aides about pardons for himself and his family members--and whether he could issue them preemptively. CNN reports the question of self-pardoning may be moot. If Trump faces any criminal charges, they'll be at the state level, not federal. US Presidents are not immune from any state charges.
Republican Rep. Doug Collins of Georgia is making a run for the Senate. He faces stiff competition from Sen. Kelly Loeffler and Democratic challenger Rafael Warnock, who has a significant edge over both GOP candidates. Now, Business Insider reports Collins has appointed Roger Stone as a campaign surrogate. The longtime GOP operative--and ardent ally of President Donald Trump--will campaign for Collins next week. Stone was imprisoned on charges of obstructing a congressional probe into 2016 election interference. However, his prison sentence was commuted by Trump in July.
As President Donald Trump crosses the country in a last-minute frenzy of campaign stumping, he's given short shrift to down-ballot Republican senators. Speaking in Arizona on Wednesday, CNN reports Trump offered a mortifyingly dismissive introduction to the state's vulnerable GOP senator, Martha McSally. Martha, just come up fast. Fast. Fast. Trump Polls have shown McSally facing a tough reelection battle against her Democratic challenger, former astronaut Mark Kelly. And as they have in other tighter-than-expected Senate races, Trump's divisive behavior has been blamed for dragging down McSally's prospects. While she is still courting Trump supporters, she refused to say whether she was proud of the president during a recent Senate debate with Kelly.
The far-right Proud Boys group has launched a recruitment drive following President Donald Trump's comments during the first presidential debate. President Trump was asked to condemn violence and white supremacy. Business Insider reports that the president said "Proud Boys - stand back and stand by." Members of the group have clashed with anti-racism demonstrators in cities such as Portland. Trump's comments come amid concerns that armed militias could come to polling stations as conspiracy theories about rigged ballots spread.
