The 508 PEUGEOT SPORT ENGINEERED Concept car, based on the radical PEUGEOT 508 HYBRID saloon, previews a line of high-performance hybrid cars powered by electrified engines synonymous with pure driving pleasure. The new high-performance, low-emission hybrid concept car delivers outstanding performance unprecedented on a PEUGEOT together with sharp and athletic styling.
PEUGEOT SPORT needs no introduction. Since the origins of the brand, the Leon has been present on the starting line and on the podiums of all kinds of automobile competitions, such as the World Rally Championship, the Dakar or, starting this season, the FIA World Endurance Championship. (WEC).Developed by the same team of engineers behind this saga of victories, the 508 SW PEUGEOT Sport Engineered is a sports car powered by electrified technology that incorporates all the experience in aerodynamics, mechanical components and performance developed in competition. Its shooting brake silhouette draws attention as much for its sharp and athletic design as for its surprising features.The Plug-In Hybrid traction chain of the 508 PEUGEOT Sport Engineered not only allows the combined action of its PureTech 200 gasoline engine and its two electric mechanics, located respectively on the front and rear axle, achieving a total power of 360 CV, with 4 drive wheels, but also makes it possible to choose four different driving modes: Sport, Electric, Comfort, Hybrid and 4WD.
PEUGEOT Sport has leveraged its experience of endurance racing (V12 and V8 PEUGEOT 908s) and that of PSA Motorsport in the FIA World Rally Championship (four cylinders) to develop a new 2.6-litre, twin-turbo, 90-degree V6. Positioned behind the driver, this 500 kW / 680 hp power plant will tip the scales at 165kg and drive the rear wheels.
It will be the Tuscan Tommaso CIUFFI the pilot of Peugeot Sport Italia who will defend the colors in the Italian championship Two Wheel Drive 2019 at the wheel of the official 208 R2B. Tommaso made his competitive debut in 2015 in the Peugeot Competition, after having found a job stability as an entrepreneur and with an unusual path for an Italian driver, that is starting from the most formative dirt road with some points abroad.The results arrived immediately, demonstrating his class: in 2015 he took part in four races in the Raceday Terra Trophy with 2 second class seats; in 2016 he competes 9 races on land with three class wins in various championships with the Peugeot 208 R2B and is the first of the 2 Motric Terra Wheels; in 2017 it is second in the Peugeot Competition TOP 208, third in the Peugeot Competition RALLY 208 and is first class at the Rally of Val d'Orcia with a 207 S2000.
Euro NCAP performs a series of crash tests on each model tested: - a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid barrier - an offset frontal impact test, 40% of the width of the car is striking a deformable barrier - a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole - a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door. The passenger compartment of the 508 remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the kneesand femurs of the driver and passenger. Peugeot showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sitting in different positions. In the full-width rigid barrier test, protection of the chest was marginal for the driver and adequate for the rear passenger, and protection of all other critical body areas was good. In both the side barrier impact and the more severe side pole test, maximum points were scored, with good protection of all critical body areas. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric assessment of the rear seats also indicated good whiplash protection. The standard-fit autonomous emergency braking system performed well in tests of its functionality at the low speeds, typical of city driving, at which many whiplash injuries are caused.
