Illegal Immigration Numbers In the European Union Plummet

Description

According to CNN, the number of people illegally crossing into Europe has dropped 90% in the past five years. Around 150,000 people entered the European Union through irregular crossings last year, the lowest number since 2013. Border and coastguard agency Frontex says the drop is due to a a big fall in the number of migrants taking the central Mediterranean route to Italy. Back in June, Italy's Interior Minister Matteo Salvini closed the country's ports to migrant boats as apart of the populist government's new anti-immigrant laws.
