Brazil's Newly Inaugurated President Wants To Tackle Corruption

Description

According to Reuters, Brazil's newly inaugurated president said his election liberated the country from socialism and political correctness. But President Jair Bolsonaro also vowed to respect democracy, tackle crime and corruption, and get the nation's economy back on track. The far-right President Bolsonaro is a former army captain who became a lawmaker. The 63-year-old is a seven-term congressional representative who swept the latest presidential election, in part, due to voter outrage towards traditional political parties. His presidency also marks the first far-right leader of Brazil since its last military dictatorship. Although Bolsonaro openly admires Brazil's military dictatorships from 1964 and 1985, he vowed to follow democratic norms.
