Dieting Will Help You Lose Weight More Than Exercise

Description

According to a report from CNN, diet is far more important than exercise if one wants to lose weight. Nutritionist and CNN contributor Lisa Drayer says, "What I always tell people is, what you omit from your diet is so much more important than how much you exercise." Calculations from Harvard Medical School say that a 185-pound person burns 200 calories in 30 minutes of walking at 15 minutes per mile. All that hard work can then easily be undone by eating four chocolate chip cookies. The report adds that even a cycling class, which can burn up to 700 calories, can be canceled out with just a piece of cake.

  • Science May Channel Your Hormones To Help You Lose Weight

A new study says a hormone naturally in humans and mice could potentially treat obesity. Researchers say the LCN2 hormone has previously been shown to make mice feel full after a meal. The hormone is secreted by bone cells and found naturally in mice and humans. The study found that the LCN2 hormone was also associated with a reduced feeling of hunger after a meal. LCN2 acts as a signal for satiety after a meal, leading mice to limit their food intake, and it does this by acting on the hypothalamus within the brain. • For Type 2 Diabetics, There's Something Better Than Weight Loss For Warding Off Dementia

More than 25% of Americans aged 65 and older have Type diabetes, putting them at risk for cognitive impairment and decline. Now, a new study shows that for such people who were overweight, controlling blood sugar levels helps improve cognitive scores. But according to UPI, the study also showed that losing weight and exercising produced mixed results. Study author Owen Carmichael says for study participants, every single improvement in blood sugar control, no matter how small, was linked to better cognition. Weight loss improved participants' short-term memory, planning, impulse control, attention, and the ability to switch tasks. However, verbal learning and overall memory still declined--particularly for people who were obese at the start of the study. Similarly, Carmichael said increasing physical activity also benefited people who were overweight more than people with obesity.

  • Well-Intentioned Anti-Obesity Campaigns May Be Backfiring

Public health officials haven't held back in linking obesity to worse outcomes for patients with the novel coronavirus COVID-19. But organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are, under the guise of matter-of-factness, covertly fat-shaming the overweight. Body relationship coach Ivy Felicia says the messaging around weight and COVID-19 might negatively affect those at higher weights. HuffPost reports eating disorder therapist Shira Rosenbluth also takes issue with the weight loss campaigns public health officials are promoting right now. Telling higher-weight people they’re more likely to die, for them to be under that kind of stress, is obviously very unhealthy. Shira Rosenbluth Eating disorder therapist
