Skater John Coughlin Dies


According to Extratv.com and People magazine, former U.S. figure skater and two-time U.S. Pairs champ John Coughlin died on Friday in Kansas city at the age of 33. The Kansas City Police Department has confirmed to People that the death was a likely suicide. Officers had been called to the scene of an apparent death by suicide, and later officials confirmed the name of the deceased matched Coughlin's. Coughlin had been accused of sexual misconduct and was suspended from skating by SafeSport. On January 8, Coughlin had officially resigned as U.S. brand manager for John Wilson Blades .Coughlin had said the charges that he was facing were "unfounded." Coughlin's sister, Angela Laune, has paid tribute to her brother on Facebook, and described him as "wonderful, strong, amazingly compassionate."

Pei, whose modern designs and high-profile projects made him one of the best-known and most prolific architects of the 20th century, has died, the New York Times reported on Thursday. He was 102. Pei, whose portfolio included a controversial renovation of Paris’ Louvre Museum and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, died overnight, his son Chien Chung Pei told the newspaper. Ieoh Ming Pei, the son of a prominent banker in China, left his homeland in 1935, moving to the United States and studying architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University.

    According to a report by CNN Style, I.M. Pei, considered by many to be one of the last great modernist architects, has died at the age of 102. While most of his work was done in the United States, Pei is perhaps most famous for his redevelopment of the Louvre Museum in Paris in the late 1980s. Pei reportedly designed the glass and metal pyramid in the main courtyard, along with three smaller pyramids and a vast subterranean addition to the museum entrance. Architecture critic Paul Goldberger wrote of Pei's work, "The pyramid does not so much alter the Louvre as hover gently beside it, coexisting as if it came from another dimension." In a 2009 documentary, Pei said, "Some people say I'm obsessed with geometry. Maybe I am, but that's what I believe: I think architecture is ... geometry in solid forms."

The filmmaker reportedly was taken off life support after suffering a stroke on April 17th.
