The 2019 FIA World Rally Championship launch happened on the first public day at Birmingham’s NEC on Saturday 12 January 2019.In what was truly WRC Super Saturday, all of the drivers, co-drivers and team principals were in one place and on hand to talk about the 2018 championship and share their opinions before the season-opener in Monte Carlo.Ford M-Sport World Rally Team, Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team, Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team and Citroen Total Abu Dhabi World Rally Team all unveiled their 2019 rally cars on Saturday morning in front of show visitors.

    McLaren F1 drivers Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris opened the first public day of Autosport International in what has been a spectacular day of star-studded interviews, including the global launch of the 2019 World Rally Championship (WRC) season.The public were treated to the unveils of all four new 2019 season World Rally Cars: the M-Sport Ford, Toyota Gazoo Racing, Hyundai Shell Mobis WRT, Citroën Total WRT. Immediately after unveiling their cars, each driver at the show revealed their chosen race numbers for the upcoming year. Away from the rally fanfare, McLaren’s 2019 F1 drivers Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz were on hand to entertain the crowds on the main Autosport stage. Lando Norris talked about getting ahead of his new teammate, the technical changes for 2019 and adjusting mentally to the challenge of his debut season in the top tier of motorsport.

    After 125 years of motorsport history, Mercedes-Benz is about to write a new chapter in the upcoming season: at the opening round of the 2019/20 ABB FIA Formula E Championship in Saudi Arabia in late November, two all-electric race cars will be fielded by the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team for the first time.Occupying the two Mercedes-Benz EQ Silver Arrow 01 cockpits will be ex-Formula 1 driver Stoffel Vandoorne and current FIA Formula 2 championship leader Nyck de Vries.In its debut season, the team will draw on the knowledge and combined motorsport expertise of the Mercedes family. At the heart of the Mercedes-Benz EQ Silver Arrow 01 is the electric powertrain which has been designed and developed at Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP) in Brixworth, UK which is the Daimler Group’s global centre of excellence for high-performance hybrid technology. Brixworth also continue to develop the hybrid power units with which Mercedes has achieved the Formula 1 championship double in each of the past five years.Responsibility for managing the cars on race weekends has been assigned to HWA AG, the Affalterbach-based motorsport specialist which has already gained a wealth of experience in Formula E last season with its own team HWA RACELAB.     Autosport International has opened its doors for 2019 – and it’s been a spectacular day of unveils already, including the European debut of Porsche’s stunning 935 ‘Moby Dick’ and a number of British Touring Car Championship cars and driver line-ups. Appearing on the Porsche stand throughout the four-day event, this very special track-only car is inspired by the famous 1970s racer. Revealed a few months ago at the ‘Rennsport Reunion’ event in California, only 77 will ever be built, each packing the same 690bhp, 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six and chassis underpinnings of the latest 911 GT2 RS.BAC announced Pirelli as its official tyre partner, which means its Mono single-seater sports car will run on the P Zero Trofeo R tyre. The British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) announcements ramped up for the new season with Cataclean Racing unveiling its race car, a Mercedes-Benz A-Class run by Ciceley Motorsport and driven by Renault Clio UK Cup graduate, Dan Rowbottom, who will make his BTCC debut this season.AmD Tuning revealed its new livery for the team’s Honda Civics, which will be raced by Sam Tordoff and Rory Butcher in the 2019 British Touring Car Championship season, while Motorbase Performance revealed Ollie Jackson and Tom Chilton as their drivers for the upcoming season.The wraps also came off the Series Elite 2019 Jaguar XE SV Project 8 race car.     Autosport International has celebrated a spectacular second day at the NEC with an incredible line-up of star drivers taking to the Autosport Stage as the show’s dedicated trade days came to a close.Autosport Engineering wrapped things up after two highly successful days of trading from some of the world’s leading motorsport, automotive, technology defence and aerospace companies. The busy area of the show hosted some of the world’s leading component suppliers and manufacturing outlets many of which were bringing the very latest 2019 products to market.The inaugural Product Showcase Awards recognised the very best from across the engineering business. Categorised into nine categories winners included small, large and new firms from Bosch Motorsport (Energy Efficiency) for its Electric Coolant, Texense (Data & Measurement) for the Texense IRN8-WS4 and Bcomp (Innovation) for its Power Ribs.Within the main show, former F1 driver David Coulthard was present to talk about W Series, the groundbreaking women’s racing series. The ex-McLaren driver revealed that when he started karting, he did so with his younger sister Lindsey, who he – and his mother and father – believed was more naturally talented.
