Top U.S. Officials Arrive In China Ahead Of Crucial Trade Talks

According to a report by Reuters, on Tuesday, top US officials arrived in the Chinese capital ahead of high-level trade talks as the world's two largest economies attempt to hammer out a deal ahead of a March 1 deadline and avoid another escalation of tariffs. On Thursday and Friday, U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin are reportedly scheduled to hold talks with Chinese Vice Premier Liu He, the top economic adviser to President Xi Jinping. Reuters reports that if the two sides fail to reach a deal by March 1st, US tariffs on 200 billion-dollars worth of Chinese imports are scheduled to increase by 15 percent.
