  • Bollywood Movie Celebrates India's hip-hop scene

    According to Reuters, Actor Ranveer Singh says that "India could be on the cusp of a musical revolution". His comment was sparked by the kind of Hindustani hip-hop that is the subject of his new movie premiering at the Berlin Film Festival. The hip-hop film Singh is referring to is titled Gully Boy. The film features the fictional story of Murad, a student who lives in a slum and ends up temporarily substituting for his injured father as chauffeur for a wealthy family. Murad ultimately discovers his talent for rapping and uses it to express his anger about poverty and the difference between rich and poor. The Berlinale festival will run until Feb. 17th.

    According to a report by Reuters, French director Francois Ozon described the struggle he faced in breaking the silence surrounding pedophile abuse scandals in the Catholic Church when making his film "By The Grace Of God," about three victims who faced down the hierarchy. Recent revelations of decades of abuse suffered by children at the hands of the priests to whose care they were entrusted have sent shockwaves through the Catholic Church globally. Ozon reportedly spoke about how he had hesitated even to seek financial backers in “ultra-Catholic” Lyon, the city in which priest Bernard Preynat allegedly groomed and abused young boys, even as successive cardinal archbishops allegedly turned a blind eye.
