Polar Bears Invade Russian Town, Attack People

Description

People are scared to leave their homes, because of a real life polar bear invasion in Novaya Zemlya, which is near Russia's northeastern arctic coast. According to CNN, parents in the remote Russian archipelago are terrified to send their children to school after what is being described as a "mass invasion of polar bears into residential areas." Polar bears have been swarming the coastal area since December, but on Saturday a state of emergency was announced. Over 50 bear sightings have occurred in Belushya Guba, the region's largest settled area with a population of 2500. Local administrator Alexander Minayev said bears have attacked people and started entering buildings. CNN explains, "Polar bears are increasingly coming into contact with humans as climate change reduces their sea-ice habitats, forcing them on land for longer periods of time."
