'Yellow Vest' Protests Continue In France For The 14th Consecutive Week


According to a report by Reuters, on Saturday, French police fired tear gas to disperse protestors in Paris, Lyon and Bordeaux, as the 14th consecutive week of 'yellow vest' protests took a violent turn in the afternoon. Four people were injured in Rouen after a driver tried to force his way through a crowd of protestors. Demonstrators gathered peacefully at the Arc de Triomphe earlier in the day, before marching toward the Eiffel Tower.

    According to a report by Reuters, on Saturday, Paris police fired water cannons and tear gas at 'yellow vest demonstrators near the Arc de Triomphe monument, in the ninth straight weekend of massive protests. Earlier on Saturday, a large gas explosion in a bakery killed two firefighters and Spanish tourist and injured nearly 50 other people. Reuters reports that France's Interior Ministry estimated that there were 32,000 demonstrators nationwide on Saturday, including 8,000 in Paris, below the 50,000 counted last week and well below the record 282,000 nationwide on Nov. 17, the first day of yellow vest protests. Thousands of protestors also reportedly took to the streets of Bordeaux and Toulon in southern France as well as Strasbourg in the east and the central city of Bourges.

  • Clashes Break Out As 'Yellow Vest' Protests Continue For 19th Consecutive Week

    According to a report by Reuters, on Saturday, police and demonstrators clashed in Paris and other French cities as 'yellow vest' protests against President Emmanuel Macron's government took place for a 19th consecutive weekend. The demonstration in the capital reportedly remained largely peaceful, however later in the afternoon police fired tear gas on protesters near boulevard de Strasbourg, near the capital's Gare du Nord and Gare de L'Est railway stations. Reuters reports that skirmishes also erupted in cities including Lille in northern France, and Toulouse and Montpellier in the south, but there were no immediate reports of injuries.

    According to a report by Reuters, on Saturday, scuffles broke out as around 7,000 “yellow vest” demonstrators took to the streets of Paris for the10th consecutive weekend of protests against President Emmanuel Macron’s government. The demonstrations were reported to be mostly peaceful, however clashes did break out late in the afternoon between police and demonstrators, some wearing masks, in Paris’ Invalides district. Reuters reports that protesters threw firecrackers, bottles and stones at the police who responded with water canon and tear gas to push them back.
