Border Agents Took Data From Woman's Phone, And She's Suing To Get It Back

Description

A woman is suing the Department of Homeland Security and Customs for seizing data from her phone as she entered the United States. According to Gizmodo, the woman claims that while passing through Immigration proceedings, border agents escorted her to a windowless room, then asked her to unlock her iPhone 6S Plus, which was protected by a passcode. Her legal complaint states that after she repeatedly refused—because the agents didn’t give her a reason for the search—they seized her phone and SIM card, and didn’t return them for more than 120 days. Her suit asks the court to force these officials to return the data they copied from her iPhone, delete the data afterwards, and disclose all third parties that have received any copies of the data.
