CEO Gary Kelly had previously said the jet's first flight would "likely take place no sooner than the second quarter of 2021." Southwest will receive 35 more jets in 2021, more than doubling its current pre-grounding fleet of Max aircraft. Passengers looking to avoid the jet will be allowed to make free changes, but Southwest says it reserves the right to use the Max for any flight.
The Washington Post is reporting that a Hawaii couple is facing reckless-endangerment charges. The couple took a six hour flight after being diagnosed with COVID-19. After testing positive for the coronavirus, the couple boarded a flight from San Francisco to Lihue, Hawaii. The couple were arrested after getting off the plane. United Airlines banned the couple. They face up to a year in jail and a $2,000 fine if convicted.
Southwest Airlines just sent 6,828 workers WARN notices after it couldn't come to an agreement. The agreement was with employees to take a pay cut to avoid furloughs. Ramp workers and flight attendants are among the most impacted workgroup. There are over 4,000 WARN notices issued between them, reports Business Insider. Workgroups that accept Southwest's proposed temporary pay cuts will be exempt from any furlough. Even still, nearly 7,000 Southwest Airlines employees are facing furlough in the new year.
