US Troops To Stay At US-Mexico Border Through Christmas And New Year's

Description

Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis approved a DHS request to keep active-duty troops at the US-Mexico border until at least January 31. The mission, known as Operation Faithful Patriot, was expected to end on December 15, says Business Insider. Currently, there are 5,600 active-duty troops serving at the US-Mexico border. That's in addition to the 2,100 National Guard personnel that deployed to the border earlier this year. Troops already spent Thanksgiving at the border, and it looks like they'll be spending Christmas and New Year's there as well.
