  • Interview with Cesc Fabregas: "I want to coach at the highest level"

La Turbie, France, Sep 28 (EFE).- At the tailend of a glittering professional career, Cesc Fábregas, one of the best European midfielders this century, is now a role model for the youngsters at AS Monaco. But as his playing career winds down, he is keeping one eye on his future after he hangs his boots up. “(In five years) I see myself coaching. I want to do it at the highest level,” the 34-year-old told Efe during an interview at the Ligue 1 club’s new training center, located on the outskirts of the luxurious city-state. A product of FC Barcelona’s famed La Masia youth academy and winner of the World Cup and European Championships with Spain, the former Arsenal and Chelsea star discussed Barça’s current challenges, his friend Lionel Messi’s arrival at Ligue 1 rivals Paris Saint-Germain and his role at AS Monaco. Question: How are you getting along with such a young squad like AS Monaco’s (with an average age of 24.3 years)?Answer: I am delighted to be here. I feel the love they have for me, and I feel the same way. I still see myself playing on for a while, but it is true that I have a slightly different role, on and off the pitch.Q: You’ve been at Monaco, one of France’s biggest clubs which is recovering from a turbulent period, for two and a half years.A: Last year we made a lot of progress (the team finished third in the league under new manager, former Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac). This year we have not started well (the team has already been knocked out of the Champions League) but, little by little, we are on a winning path again. We are excited by the Europa League.Q: Were you surprised by how Messi left Barca?A: In football, everything can change in a matter of seconds. It was his turn this time, it’s happened to me many times. They are moments in life that you have to overcome in the best way possible. Leo is a super strong guy, very competitive. He will not have problems adjusting.Q: Several world class players have left Barcelona in similarly unexpected circumstances. What is happening at the club?A: Messi’s situation occurred during a period of instability at the club, but in the end, he will be seen as the best player in Barcelona’s history, and this will not change that. When he retires, he can have another farewell. Club legends should depart in a way that they deserve, that recognises what they have given to the club and the sport.Q: Seven years after your departure, how do you look back on those three seasons you spent at Barcelona (from 2011 to 2014)?A: It was a great experience. In the end, for one reason or another, lots of things can change in seconds. I have always been pretty independent, I left Barcelona at 15 years old. I did not need to be protected to know what I wanted. Changing scenery was never an issue for me.Q: Barcelona finally achieved a convincing result at the weekend (beating Levante 3-0). What do you make of the new generation of young talent coming out of La Masia?A: To foster a young talent, you need to give him opportunities. I am convinced that Spain has lots of talented young players who don’t get their chance to shine. Football is very impatient. However, I had (Arsene) Wenger, who played me when I was just 16 years old (...) In a normal situation, Barcelona would not have done that. Now, they are playing Gavi, who is 17, Nico (Gonzalez), Pedri, Puig (...) They are players who are carrying the load for a massive club going through turbulent times.Q: Which of them is your favorite?A: It’s not about who I like more or less, but we can see that Gavi has a lot of self-confidence that is unusual for someone his age. He is tireless, he is aggressive, you can see he wants to learn and do things the right way. If they continue like that, the future looks very bright.Q: The only trophy missing from your haul is the Champions League, which you almost won in 2006 with Arsenal, when they lost to Barcelona in the final.A: Name any final -- I have played in all of them. Even though I lost the Champions League final, I can say I played in one. I remember (in the 2006 final) that they took me off when we were leading 1-0. Thierry Henry had the chance to make it 2-0 in a one-on-one with Victor Valdes. I came off the pitch as a European champion, but then Samuel Eto’o equalised -- from an offside position. And then Belletti and Larson linked up on the wing to make it 2-1.Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?A: Retired from playing, and I see myself coaching. I want to do it at the highest level. I want to prepare myself really well. I don’t want to make the mistake of starting to coach from scratch at a big club. Creating your own style and approach takes time, although I think it’s obvious from my playing style what kind of manager I would like to become.Q: Who do you think have been the most important coaches in the last 20 years?A: Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti. Those are the three that come to mind. Q: Two of them have been your manager (Guardiola at Barcelona and Mourinho at Chelsea).A: I have been very lucky to be coached by the best and to play with the best.Q: You are also a legend at international level. What moments do you treasure most?A: Celebrations in Madrid that had never been seen before, and not only once, but three times (for the European Championships in 2008 and 2012, and the World Cup in 2010). On the pitch, my penalty in the shootout against Italy in the quarterfinals, my assist to (Andres) Iniesta for the goal in the World Cup final in 2010; another I provided for David Silva in final against Italy in 2012; and my penalty in the shootout against Portugal (in the semifinal in 2012).FOOTAGE AND SOUNDBITES FROM CESC FÁBREGAS, A MONACO PLAYER, FROM THE HIGH PERFORMANCE CENTER OF AS MONACO IN LA TURBIE, FRANCE.

However, with upbeat Mercury in your sector of values at an angle with feisty Mars, some of these might not be easy and you could feel uncomfortable about discussing them if your ideas are not those of the majority. Taurus 21 April - 21 May Open discussion may be the way to avoid talking at cross-purposes with key people, including close ones. And although this might not make for easy conversation, it could do much to clear the air. Gemini 22 May - 21 June You may feel a sense of urgency, and this can lead you to the conclusion that if you don’t act now you could miss out on an important opportunity or deal. However, the opposite may be true in that if you make that leap, it could be too soon. Cancer 22 June - 23 July A lovely Sun/Neptune tie can bring a warm and caring energy into the mix today, and might encourage you to enjoy a virtual coffee and a soulful chat with someone. This might provide just the tonic you need and may prove quite uplifting. Leo 24 July - 23 August With thoughtful Mercury your ruler aligning with confident Jupiter in your lifestyle zone, an inspired idea can take hold and seem worthy of your investment in time and money. Virgo 24 August - 23 September Try not to read too much into minor spats over coming days, as by allowing them to blow over they may come to nothing. With lively Mercury forging an uncomfortable angle to dynamic Mars though, it might be easier to default to a decidedly stubborn outlook. Libra 24 September - 23 October Communication can be key to further progress when it comes to new opportunities or to bonding more deeply with a certain person. However, with messenger Mercury angling towards fiery Mars, there may be one association that is proving very difficult to handle. Scorpio 24 October - 22 November Even if you do have decisions to make, you might be inclined to step back and detach from the world, so that you have time to think. The only issue with this, is that your thinking will be subjective rather than objective. Sagittarius 23 November - 21 December It can seem that you need to do something to sort out an annoying situation, but with Mercury forging an awkward tie with stirring Mars, it may be more a question of clearing the air first. Something might need to be said so that rather than endure a stalemate, things can get moving once again. Still, there is potential to take advantage of an opportunity to boost your income. Capricorn 22 December - 20 January You could experience a desire to step back from tasks that are keeping you busy. This is a time when you may find inspiration in activities that cater to your imagination and take you into another world. Such creative projects might be a way to lift your mood and could be therapeutic in so many ways. You could uncover the seeds of a money-making idea while you are at it. Aquarius 21 January - 19 February Mercury in your home zone ties with positive Jupiter and the Sun with visionary Neptune, which can uplift your mood. You may be inspired to explore ideas that take you out of your comfort zone, and that encourage you to consider possibilities that feed your deeper urges and need for something different. A creative goal or project could also flourish at this time, if given a chance. Pisces 20 February - 20 March It may seem that you have less control over the events that are happening around you, and this might be because of a blend of energies that encourages you to be receptive to life rather than proactive. You could find that switching perspectives and taking control of the situation that needs addressing the most, can allow you to feel empowered and easily able to take things forward.

  • A concert for plants

Madrid, Jun 23 (EFE/EPA).- Puccini’s Crisantemi’s restless and mournful melody fills the Liceu Opera Theater in Barcelona. But there are no mask-clad audience members sitting in the opulent red velvet seats.Instead, 2,292 potted plants are serenaded by a string quartet. FOOTAGE OF THE PLANTS.SOUNDBITES OF EUGENIO AMPUDIA, ARTIST:-"It is an action charged with symbolism. What I wanted to explain through it was that our relationship with nature needs to change. What is more, I think it is an issue that is on the agendas of all social agents, politicians, even companies are thinking about ethics and each has presented it in different ways. I thought I also should give my opinion on the matter. I think art can provide different aspects to these types of dialogues and what artists do normally, my work consists of telling the people that are around me what is happening in my surroundings and from a point of view that is usually aesthetic or political."-"An artist is someone who tells other people about stuff and that point of you one has is crucial when it comes to talking about things and I don’t think you can detach yourself from your role to communicate. We are people who communicate in a very specialized way and I don’t know what an artist who doesn’t have anything to say is doing in this galaxy in this moment. "-"There has to be clear and equal relationship between species. We cannot think of ourselves as being alone in this planet nor can we think that we can dominate nature, it is obvious that things are not like that and there are many many species that have a lot to provide."-"It is true that oriental cultures have positions on this matter work and it is true that westerners with our quest to generate resources and above all profits we are destroying the place that we inhabit and this is very evident now."-"I think we have reached the end of an era and I think things will never be the same again and I think for artists to tell this story is as reasonable as it is for others to so. It may well be the case that artists don’t have this dosis of greed that bother people’s rhetoric may, and that we look at things from a more global perspective and even perceive that things are deliciously interwoven."-"I also think that spaces are important, space convey concept to pieces. This work, the Concert for the Bioceno, if it weren’t in the Liceo which is one the great international opera houses, it has 2292 seats and a brutal program and an incredible history and it is one of the most important buildings created for the Opera, if it weren’t to take place there the artwork wouldn’t have the same meaning. My idea needs to be understood as unfolding within a space of great symbolic value."-"I have worked on a collection of small sculptures: a Bosco style sculpture of an acorn with antennae growing out of it working as a photo holder, a dolphin shaped sculpture made out of rubber bands. A tiny placard with miniscule lettering and a very intimate message: “Artistic institutions can be a good tool to unite geographies and types of life when they utilize their power as a platform for though, the most grave world problems can be understood with honesty and hope” quote by Estrella de Diego. "-"For me art is essential for the conservation of human life, not only mine but also everyone else's. Art creates relational spaces that are not even physical that amplify all of our possibilities. When you mingle with people from the culture sphere many things are endlessly growing, like branches that interweave with other branches, I cannot conceive of someone not thinking that it is something that is key to life for artists to be working on what they are working. I cannot conceived of life without artists, I cannot conceived of life without art and I cannot conceive of art without culture. "

  • The GOP Has Far More Important Things To Do Than Help Tens Of Millions Of Americans

President Donald Trump has changed his thinking, and now says he wants a big stimulus bill passed before the general election on November 3rd. Fed Chair Jay Powell also wants to see one passed and has warned that without one, the US economy's recovery will surely falter. But the Republican-led Senate hasn't passed a new coronavirus relief bill since April 21st, and shows little signs of doing so before the election. According to Business Insider, the GOP is far more concerned with getting the Supreme Court tilted to the right by having Amy Coney Barrett confirmed. For more than five months, Congress has held up a comprehensive stimulus package for tens of millions of Americans and left them in limbo. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell wants a so-called 'skinny' bill, while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is holding out for far more for the American worker.
