  • Tens of Thousands Evacuate as Deadly wildfire Rips Through Southern California

    A huge wildfire broke out in the hills near Santa Paula, California on Monday. It's rapid spread is helped along by gusts sweeping through the area at 50 miles per hour. At least 27,000 have been evacuated as of Tuesday. One person was killed when their car rolled over as they attempted to evacuate. California Governor Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency for Venture County. Over 1,100 firefighter have gathered to battle the blaze.

    Massive fires in Southern California have forced pets of all sizes to take shelter at a local equestrian center. Hansen Dam Equestrian Center provided temporary accommodation for displaced animals that had been evacuated from the path of the La Tuna fire, in Los Angeles, on Sunday. The fire, which has been described as the largest in Los Angeles' history, has reportedly covered around 7,000 acres of land.

  • Roads Flooded as Oroville Dam Continues to Spill

    The Californian Department of Water Resources has been unleashing up to 100,000 cubic feet of water per second from the heavily damaged spillway at Oroville Dam in a bid to drain Lake Oroville after local authorities determined that uncontrolled flood waters could rush down from the lake due to a severe erosion of one of the Oroville Dam’s emergency spillways. Although authorities have been working round the clock to plug remaining holes, the dam, which is about 70 miles north of Sacramento, is still at extreme risk of flooding. Local authorities supervised the evacuation of almost 200,000 people from Butte, Marysville, and Yuba Counties, which are located downstream from California’s second largest water reservoir.
