The 56th BFI London Film Festival in partnership with American Express is delighted to announce that this year's Festival will open on Wednesday 10 October with the European Premiere of Disney's FRANKENWEENIE, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Tim Burton. In partnership with American Express and Disney, and in a first for the Festival, the Opening Night screening and red carpet will go live from Odeon Leicester Square to BFI Imax and 30 screens across the UK. The Festival will also host The Art of Frankenweenie Exhibition from 17-21 October. FRANKENWEENIE is a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor's fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new "leash on life" can be monstrous. A visually stunning black and white, stop-motion animated film in 3D, FRANKENWEENIE's voice cast includes Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short, Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan, Atticus Shaffer, Robert Capron, Conchata Ferrell and Winona Ryder. Disney will release the film in the UK on 17 October. Tim Burton, Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O'Hara, Martin Landau, Producer Allison Abbate and Executive Producer Don Hahn are expected to attend the Festival. In a first for the BFI London Film Festival Opening Night, FRANKENWEENIE will receive a simultaneous premiere in 30 cinemas nationwide, with audiences across the UK able to enjoy footage from the Leicester Square red carpet prior to the screenings. This event is part of the Festival's drive to reach a diverse UK audience and put the public at the heart of the festival-going experience. FRANKENWEENIE is the first animated film that Tim Burton has directed for Disney. Burton also produced along with Allison Abbate, with Don Hahn serving as executive producer. The screenplay is by John August, based on an original idea by Tim Burton. The Art of Frankenweenie Exhibition is generously supported by American Express. The exhibition runs from 17-21 October (with a press preview and preview for American Express Cardmembers on 16 October) and will be free to the public. The Art of Frankenweenie Exhibition will take place next door to the BFI Southbank at Southbank Centre's Festival Village. The 56th BFI London Film Festival in partnership with American Express runs from Wednesday 10 October-Sunday 21 October. The full programme for the Festival will be announced at the press launch on Wednesday 5 September. Frankenweenie opens in UK cinemas from October 17.
Оne clever pup named Agra has learned a new way to enjoy the wind in his hair. He loves riding on the backseat of his owner's motorcycle and can often be seen grinning from ear to ear with his tongue out on the highway near Paraguay's Santa Elena district. Agra learned to ride a motorcycle when he was just one year old. Now the five-year-old biker can enjoys long journeys of up to 14 miles or short trips into to town to grab a quick bite to eat.
A puppy named Loca suffered severe facial injuries after a dog fight. Parts of her jaw were broken and she wasn't able to eat. Footage provided courtesy of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine shows how a team of vets designed the Exo-K9 face mask specifically for Loca, a four-month-old Staffordshire bull terrier. She wore the mask for several months after vets performed surgery and made a full recovery.
Customers at My Cofi cafe in Kaohsiung can purchase customized 3D sculptures in their creamy cup of coffee. My Cofi barristas have brought dozens of photos of animals alive in the cups of their customers, but can also make pretty much anything their clients want including cartoon characters, insects, other animals, and even portraits of people. Needless to say, 3D coffee foam portaits are more expensive than a regular cappucino. One portrait takes about 10 minutes for a skilled barrista to complete.
An unusual duo, a cute husky and tiny black baby kitten have become such good friends that they are now drinking buddies, literally. The pair of extreme opposites shared a bottle of milk after playing together in their owner's home in Fillmore, Saskatchwean on Saturday. The husky called Chaos and kitten Tipsy were filmed by their owners romping around before taking turns to drink some milk.
Pet owners dressed their dogs up in their Sunday best and brought them to Monimbo church, located about 20 miles south pf Nicaragua's capital Managua on Sunday for a special annual mass dedicated to Saint Lazarus. Pooches wearing an assortment of hats, football shirts and costumes were thrust before the statue of the saint to give thanks and ask for healing. The tradition is inspired by a passage in the Bible detailing how dogs licked the sores of Lazarus, who in turn helped them.
The world's first tour bus specifically geared towards hosting dog owners and their dogs hit the streets of London on Tuesday. The tour, which was organised by the More Than Dog insurance company, includes stop-offs for walks and meals at canine-friendly restaurants. The tour bus, called the K9, begins and ends at Milbank in central London, and is running three times a day for four days, ending on January 19.
