How Alan Menken Parodied Himself In ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’

Description

The Wrap reports “Ralph Breaks the Internet” sidekick Vanellope von Schweetz has some of the film's funniest moments. Her song “A Place Called Slaughter Race" is like a longing princess song Alan Menken wrote for “The Little Mermaid” and “Beauty and the Beast”. Although Henry Jackman wrote the score, Menken was asked to write the music for this particular song. When we were talking about it ourselves, we said, Penelope is going to find a puddle of water and start singing. It shouldn’t be a joke song, it should be just as earnest and desirous as any Disney princess song. Phil Johnston, director Menken said a song he wrote over 10 years ago that got lost ended up being used in this film, with collaboration from the directors.
