This Year Shows An 'Unprecedented' Increase In Hostility Towards Journalists

Description

According to CNN, a new report has found that more journalists have been killed, abused and subjected to violence in 2018 than in any other year on record, with those in the profession facing an "unprecedented level of hostility.” Murder, imprisonment, hostage-taking and enforced disappearances of journalists all increased compared to last year, according to Reporters Without Borders (RSF), who criticized politicians and public figures for encouraging disdain for the news media.

  • How Low Interest Rates Are Pushing Americans Out Of The Housing Market

The price of US housing in the third quarter of 2020 saw the biggest year-over-year jump since 2013. Markets Insider reports the median price for a single-family home rose 12%, mainly fueled by record-low mortgage interest rates. But there's a downside: Not every American is benefitting from the rally. In fact, Q3 saw the proportion of first-time homebuyers drop to just 31%. That's the lowest share in over 30 years. As home prices significantly outpace median family income growth, more Americans have been pushed out of the housing market and have had to delay homeownership.

  • Chinese Factory Shows Creates Giant 'Super Trump' Chicken Balloons

According to the Chinese calendar, 2017 is Year of the Rooster and one Chinese factory has rolled out a very special surprise right in time for Chinese New Year, which will take place in 2017 on Saturday, January 28. This giant, 65-foot-high inflatable chicken is called 'Super Trump', and the levitating caricature features a white chicken sporting the iconic blonde hairdo of the US president elect, sewn on in golden fabric. Oddly enough, this isn't the first time that Trump has been compared to a bird in China. Chinese social media is abuzz about the similarities between the President elect and a five-year-old golden pheasant called "Little Red", which appears to have the same slicked back blonde hairdo as the Donald. 'Super Trump' was designed by American artist Casey Latiolais and the factory is selling individual inflatable birds for just under 8 thousand dollars a pop.
