Former national security adviser John Bolton didn't mince words after US President Donald Trump vetoed the annual bill to fund the US military. Trump's chief complaint with the bill is that it called for the renaming of military bases named after Confederate military figures. The must-pass, $741 billion bill was passed with widespread bipartisan support. According to Business Insider, Bolton told Trump to 'get out of the way,' and said Trump was 'not a conservative.' Trump's former national security adviser also described Trump's 'destructive' veto as a 'purely gratuitous action' and 'selfish.' There's very little you can do to repair your reputation, but for God's sakes, get out of the way of the national security of the US and get out of the way of our efforts to overcome the pandemic. Senator Elizabeth Warren has brought forth legislation for free mass coronavirus testing for essential workers and those incarcerated. The bill is called the Expanding COVID-19 Testing Capacity Act of 2020. The bill would also require protections for those who are hired as a result of the bill. The federal government would manufacture and distribute COVID-19 diagnostic tests. The kits would be delivered to community centers, congregate care settings, schools, and childcare facilities. The kits would also go to religious centers, prisons and jails, businesses that employ essential workers." This legislation would also allocate another $25 billion in state, local, territorial, and tribal testing systems.
The White House applauds the adoption of the foreign aid legislation and urges the US lower House to approve the long-delayed funding for Ukraine's war efforts against Russia. "The president urges the House to send this legislation to his desk immediately so that he can sign it into law," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre tells reporters. SOUNDBITE
