S&P 500 And Dow Fall Lower As U.S. Shutdown Possibility Looms

Description

Reuters reports that the S&P 500 and the Dow closed slightly lower after tense trading on Tuesday. The volatile trading was brought on as investors were forced to pivot their focus between China-U.S. trade talks, President Donald Trump’s threat to shut down the U.S. government and uncertainty regarding Brexit. Wall Street’s three major indexes wavered between positive and negative territory during the day before falling sharply in the last half hour of trading. Three of the S&P’s 11 major sectors ended in the red, while defensive consumer sectors closed up 0.9 percent.
