BMW 3 Series - 320d Exterior Design

Description

The BMW 3-Series Sedan has epitomised the concept of sporty driving pleasure in the global premium midsize class for more than 40 years. Exuding dynamic design, agile handling, exceptional efficiency and innovative equipment features, it takes the signature characteristics of a BMW and turns the volume up several notches. The sedan represents not only the core of the BMW 3-Series range (of which over 15 million units have now been sold worldwide) but also the heartbeat of the BMW brand. When the first BMW 3-Series was launched in 1975, it simultaneously brought to life a new breed of car; the sports sedan concept underpinned the rise of the 3-Series to become BMW's most successful model - a status it retains to this day. Over the course of its six model generations to date, the BMW 3-Series has been ranked the world's biggest-selling premium car, led the way for high-performance powertrain and chassis technology and earned a reputation as a pioneer of technological innovations in the midsize segment. This latest edition of the car sees BMW building on the sporting tradition of the 3-Series, whose exploits in race competition have earned it so much extra kudos. The seventh generation of the sports sedan moves the game on once again in terms of driving dynamics, not to mention premium quality and innovation, in the midsize segment.

With its clearly structured surfaces, dynamic lines and large air intakes, the front apron adds even greater emphasis to the sporty appearance of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 3 Series Touring. The redesigned headlights and kidney grille also give the car strong visual presence. The standard full-LED headlights are now much slimmer, with clear contours and daytime driving lights arranged in an inverted L shape to create a harmonious and modern look.Adaptive LED Headlights are available as an option, and are identifiable by the blue accents inside their covers. Blue light effects below the headlight units also give the front end a striking and high-class appearance in the hours of darkness. The Adaptive LED Headlights’ range of functions includes the cornering light and non-dazzling matrix high beam as well as dynamic headlight range control and variable light distribution. The lightly modified contours and new double bars give the BMW kidney grille an even more powerful look. • The all-new BMW 3 Series Plug-in Hybrid Design Exterior

The new BMW 3 series plug-in hybrid joins the ranks, promising a proper combination of efficiency and performance in the sports sedan segment. The core of the 3 series plug-in hybrid is obviously its powertrain. BMW’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder generates 184 horsepower (135 kW), with a single electric motor nestled in the eight-speed automatic transmission providing an extra 113 hp (83 kW). Combined, BMW lists total output at 252 hp (185 kW), but this new hybrid has an interesting feature called XtraBoost that works not unlike a shot of nitrous oxide. With the new BMW 3 series in Sport mode, mashing the accelerator adds an additional 40 hp (30kW) for a period of up to 10 seconds, giving the sedan a total output of 292 hp (215 kW)

32 years on from the debut of the first ever BMW 3-Series Touring, the latest generation of the sporty estate is poised on the start line. This new edition of the five-door 3-Series - beloved of customers in Europe in particular - brings a compelling and seamless blend of driving pleasure and functional appeal to the premium midsize class. Latestgeneration engines and new chassis technology provide a noticeable increase in sporting prowess, while intelligent equipment features optimise versatility both in everyday use and on trips away. The advances made in these core disciplines join with the BMW 3-Series Touring's dynamic take on the new BMW design language, the extensively refined premium ambience of its interior and the latest innovations in control/operation and connectivity to define the character of the new car.The progressive nature of the latest BMW 3-Series Touring builds on historical precedent. Indeed, the concept behind the new car has its roots in the company's erstwhile quest to bring the pleasure of sporty driving espoused by the BMW 3-Series to new customers - by means of an additional body variant. The original BMW 3-Series Touring presented in 1987 fulfilled this brief in spectacular style, its extended roofline, large tailgate and resultant increase in interior space adding significantly greater functionality to the agile handling familiar from its sedan sibling. BMW now had a new breed of car on its hands, the BMW 3-Series Touring blazing a trail for versatile yet handsome five-door models in the premium midsize class and continuing to set the benchmark for sporty driving characteristics (in what soon became a hotly contested market segment) to the present day. More than 1.7 million examples of the 3-Series Touring have since hit the roads, with the new car's immediate predecessor alone accounting for over 500,000 of these.

The new 3-Series Sedan is 76 millimetres longer than its predecessor (at 4,709 mm), 16 millimetres wider (1,827 mm) and just 1 mm taller (1,442 millimetres).
