Trump Economic Adviser Says US GDP Could Go Negative During Shutdown


Chair of President Donald Trump's Council of Economic Advisers Kevin Hassett has admitted that the ongoing government shutdown may result in problems for the US economy. According to Business Insider, Hassett told CNN in an interview on Wednesday that US GDP growth "could" go into the negative for the first quarter if the partial federal government shutdown lasts through March.

Larry Kudlow added that reaching 3-percent is not dependent on the US and China coming to terms over a trade dispute. Kudlow is the director of the White House’s National Economic Council. During an interview with CNBC, Kudlow said that hitting the 3-percent forecast is not contingent on China.
