Pelosi Says No State Of Union Speech In House Until Shutdown Ends

Description

Nancy Pelosi told President Trump that he may not deliver a State of the Union speech in the House of Representatives until the government shutdown ends. Reuters reports the Speaker of the House said in a letter to Trump that the House would not authorize the speech at this time. “Again, I look forward to welcoming you to the House on a mutually agreeable date for this address when government has been opened." The president has said he will not reopen the government until he is granted $5.7 billion to help pay for a US-Mexico border wall. Trump said on Wednesday he planned to deliver his annual address before the U.S. Congress as scheduled on Jan. 29. “It would be so very sad for our Country if the State of the Union were not delivered on time, on schedule, and very importantly, on location!” Trump wrote.
