Stars React To Their 2019 Oscar Nominations

The nominations for the 2019 Academy Awards are in! After the announcements rolled in on Tuesday, celebrities responded on social media and in interviews. Channel24 compiled the reactions of some of the nominees, which include: 1. Spike Lee, nominated for best director for BlackKlansman, shared video of he and his family jumping up and down after his announcement, marking his first nomination in his 30 year career. He shared in an interview, “Thirty years is a long time, ain’t it?” 2. Rami Malek, nominated for best actor for Bohemian Rhapsody He tweeted, “I have absolutely treasured playing Freddie Mercury and I am so profoundly humbled and thrilled to honour him this way." 3. Alfonso Cuaron, nominated for best director for Roma talked about the importance of diversity in a phone interview. He explained, “Cinema needs the opportunity to be diverse. What mainstream cinema and the theatrical experience has lacked in general is diversity. And I’m talking about diversity in terms of stories and characters and ways of doing films.” 4. Hannah Beachler, nominated for production design for Black Panther. She's the first African-American to be nominated for production design. She told the Associated Press “To break down a wall like that, to be your ancestors’ wildest dreams, to show other young women of colour and boys and girls that you can do whatever you want no matter what struggles you have..."
