Trump Ends A Key Cold War Nuclear Arms Pact With Russia

Description

According to Business Insider, The US is officially withdrawing from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty with Russia due to alleged violations of the 1987 pact by Moscow, the Trump administration said Friday. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the withdrawal after a series of tense conversations with the Russians failed to save the agreement, which dates from the closing years of the Cold War. Pompeo said at the Department of State, "Countries must be held accountable when they break the rules. Russia has jeopardized the United States' security interests. We can no longer be restricted by the treaty while Russia shamelessly violates it.“
