Brazil’s mining giant #Vale has reached an agreement with local authorities to pay $7 billion in compensation over a deadly #dam collapse in 2019 in #Brumadinho. 270 people died when a dam in a mining complex unleashed a torrent of waste, with an area the size of 300 football pitches was buried under thick chemical mud. The payment to the state of Minas Gerais is the biggest in #Brazil’s history, but local residents are not satisfied.
