Thomas Pesquet has grabbed wide media attention in France ahead of his journey to the International Space Station, the first mission for a French astronaut in almost a decade.
American astronaut Jeff Williams is scheduled to set a new NASA record. During his fourth expedition to space, the 58-year-old will have spent the most cumulative days in orbit for a NASA astronaut. At the end of his six-month stay, Williams will have logged 534-days in orbit. As a member of Expedition 48, the mission marks his third on board the International Space Station. Once the grew currently on board the ISS descends back to Earth in June, Williams will take command on the space station.
Astronaut Scott Kelly has a list of achievements other astronauts must envy and few will ever emulate, let alone surpass. Since 1999, Kelly has been a member of four missions to space, with the last seeing him set a new record by spending an entire year aboard the International Space Station. He also holds the record for cumulative time in space, which now stands at 520 days. With that last extended trip now over, Kelly has announced he is set to retire from NASA effective April 1, 2016.
