India sees smartphone boom despite economic downturn

Smartphone sales are bucking an economic slowdown in India in what analysts say is a reflection of how the devices are becoming a necessity rather than an accessory in the country. India -- the world's fastest-growing smartphone market -- has become a key battleground for global mobile and e-commerce firms as smartphone growth in other countries stagnates or declines.
