1973 VW Type 3 Squareback, 2019 VW Golf Alltrack, and 2019 VW Tiguan Design

Description

The Squareback wagons used components of the Beetle in a more family friendly shape, complete with storage under the hood and above the engine in back. The 65-hp version was among the first vehicles worldwide to have fuel injection. The 2019 Golf Alltrack was its direct modern descendant, offering the kind of wagon packaging that thousands of families over the decades embraced, along with 4Motion all-wheel drive. The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan has proven itself a different kind of successor; with an optional third row1 and one of the largest interiors in its class, it too has been embraced as a Volkswagen that can transport multiple generations in style.

  • 1967 Volkswagen Type 2 21-Window Bus and 2019 Volkswagen Atlas Design

Volkswagen has always built stylish people movers; the first Type 2 Bus came to America in 1950, kicking off a five-decade run of Volkswagen vans. The Volkswagen-owned copy in two-tone white-on-orange paint makes all of 53 hp.Today, the Volkswagen Atlas people mover is available with 4Motion all-wheel-drive, the ability to tow up to 5,000 lbs. when properly equipped,2 and up to 17 cupholders. • Volkswagen ID.3 Design at 2019 IAA

Volkswagen and its customers launched into a new era of environmentally friendly mobility and will showcase the fully electric ID.3 at IAA 2019. The first model from the MEB product line for electric vehicles demonstrates a CO2-neutral balance and impresses with the high levels of driving dynamics characteristic of electric cars. It has been fully networked and, in the ID.3 1ST special edition, enables electrically powered ranges of up to 420 kilometers (WLTP) with initially three equipment variants. All ID.3 1ST models feature the most popular battery variant that provides a usable energy content of 58 kWh. The series production version will later also offer a smaller battery option with an energy content of 45 kWh and a range of up to 330 kilometers as well as a larger battery with an energy content of 77 kWh and a maximum range of 550 kilometers. Thanks to its fast charging capability, at a charging output of 100 kW it is possible to recharge the ID.3 1ST with enough energy within 30 minutes to cover a range of around 290 kilometers (WLTP) - a significantly longer range than had previously been possible in the compact vehicle segment.Volkswagen will offer a guarantee of eight years or 160,000 kilometers on ID.3 batteries, thus safeguarding longevity. The ID.3 also signals visually that it is more than just a new model. Its visionary design clearly indicates the new era of electric mobility, while its spatial arrangement fully benefits from design advantages provided by electrically driven vehicles. With external dimensions comparable to the Golf, the ID.3 provides a vehicle interior that is larger than that in any other vehicle in its category. As the basic price for the series production model will be under €30,000 in Germany, the vehicle's price will be comparable to that of typical compact vehicles following the deduction of the anticipated government subsidies - an electric car for the masses. Particularly noteworthy is its unique price-range ratio that is possible solely as a result of Volkswagen's consistent strategic alignment towards electric vehicles and the associated scaling effects. The ID.3 will be delivered in Germany from mid-2020.

  • IAA 2019 Making Of Volkswagen ID.3 - Design

At IAA (12 to 22 September) the ID.3 will be accompanied by two more electric Volkswagen models: the most recent generation of the also premiering e-up!0103 and the current e-Golf0203. BUZZ04, celebrated as tomorrow’s van icon, the avant-garde ID.VIZZION04 saloon and the ID. BUGGY04 beach cruiser. These vehicles will merge the present with the future at the IAA 2019 and launch the Volkswagen Passenger Cars Brand and automotive mobility into a new era.ID.3 1ST – the visionary car. Like all members of the ID. family, the new ID.3’s design is based on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB) developed by Volkswagen. In mid-May, Volkswagen successfully started the pre-booking phase for the ID.3 1st edition01 – an exclusive special edition, limited to 30,000 vehicles, with a comprehensive set of features. The ID.3 1ST will be offered with the medium-sized of the model’s three available battery sizes and deliveries have been scheduled to begin in mid-2020. The base price for this model will be less than €40,000. This price will include up to 2,000 kWh of electricity for one year following the day of the vehicle’s initial registration. The battery in the ID.3 1ST has a capacity of 58 kWh. This battery will supply energy to the 150-kW electric motor and enable a top speed of 160 km/h and a range of up to 420 kilometres (WLTP). The ID.3 will also be offered with a 45-kWh or 77-kWh battery. The ID.3 with the 45-kWh battery will be able to travel up to 330 kilometres (WLTP) with one battery charge. • 2019 Volkswagen Passat Alltrack Design

The all-wheel-drive Passat Alltrack is a further independent model version. This was developed for private and business high-mileage drivers who do not just drive the Passat on surfaced roads, who want to hitch a trailer to it or who also value the perfect grip when on a skiing holiday. A progressive all-rounder that comes into its own when the going gets tough on the basis of the Passat Estate – a crossover from the estate and SUV models. The standard specification of the Passat Alltrack includes bumpers adapted for offroad driving with underbody protection, sill extensions also featuring underbody protection, and robust wheel arch extensions. Thanks to a special Offroad mode, modified running gear with greater ground clearance (172 mm) and the permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive, the Passat Alltrack is just as much at home when driving offroad on terrain otherwise reserved for SUVs. At the same time, the Passat Alltrack is also a comfortable and fast touring car. The Passat Alltrack is available with a 2.0 TSI petrol engine with 200 kW / 272 PS or a choice of two TDI diesel engines with 140 kW / 190 PS and 176 kW / 240 PS respectively. A 7-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG) is standard for all variants.

  • Volkswagen Golf - Crash & Safety Tests 2019

The passenger compartment of the Golf remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the kneesand femurs of the driver and passenger. VW showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes andto those sitting in different positions. In the full-width rigid barrier test, protection of the chest of the rear passenger was marginal but, otherwise, protection was good or adequate for both the driver and rear passenger. In the side barrier impact, protection of all critical bodyareas was good and the car scored full points in this test. However, during the test, the rear driver's side door opened and the car waspenalised for the risk of occupant ejection that this represents. In the side pole impact, protection of all critical body areas was good andthe Golf scored maximum points in this test. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplashinjuries in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric assessment of the rear seats also indicated good whiplash protection. Thestandard-fit autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system performed well in tests of its functionality at the low speeds at which manywhiplash injuries occur, with collisions avoided in all test scenarios
