Madrid, Aug 4 (EFE).- At least 26 women in Cuba have been killed by their intimate partners so far in 2021, according to Red Femenina, an organization for the empowerment of Cuban women based in Spain. INTERVIEW WITH MARIA CRISTINA LABRADA.Translation:Women were the centre of relations, in neighbourhoods, in society, school doors... So we thought, why, don't we link, or get them in touch, try to get women in touch with each other, without considering their social circles, opposition or not, simply women, so that they can connect and talk and share their problems and solutions. We started one day, we called them and they kept coming and coming and coming until this heterogeneous group of women became homogeneous. It's difficult to bring down women who are brought together for an objective because of course it's politics, but it's an issue of humanity. Women suffer a lot in Cuba, they have to bear the emotional weight of the families, there's a lot of gender-based violence in Cuba which the government doesn't want to qualify as a crime. It's the only country in the Western hemisphere that doesn't qualify it as such. And, when women protest social situations, they become victims of institutional violence. They have very difficult lives.
