France's Justine Dupont surfs a big wave off the Portuguese coast of Nazaré, known for its colossal walls of water that attract competitive surfers and competitions every year.
French surfer Justine Dupont is a specialist big wave rider, and on February 8 she conquered Nazaré in Portugal. Dupont is competing in the "Biggest Wave Awards", a World Surf League (WSL) competition whose champion will be announced in April.
After escaping death in 2013 Brazilian surfer Maya Gabeira has made her triumphant return to the giant waves in the seaside town of Nazare in Portugal where surfers catch some of the world's biggest waves.
From a childhood blighted by drink and drugs, a Brazilian man has turned his life around to become an extreme surfer, with his sights now set on breaking the record for conquering the highest wave in the world.
Despite having lost his sight when he was very young, Matt Formston has spent his life taming the ocean. The 44-year-old Australian is among the best disabled surfers in the world, and has competed at Pismo Beach last week in the World Para Surfing Championship.
