  • 2017 Will See Arrival Of Mercedes' Urban eTruck

With headlights as slim as LEDs will allow and extreme cladding covering its side, Mercedes' new Urban eTruck looks positively futuristic. And using three lithium-ion battery modules that combine to produce an all-electric range of about 124 miles, the eTruck can handle a day's worth of urban deliveries. Last year, Mercedes-Benz unveiled a heavily camouflaged version, and now, less than a year later, it's time for the eTruck to hit the road. Mercedes will first deliver a limited number of trucks to German customers in two sizes: 18 tonnes and 25 tonnes, which will be offered in three configurations -- refrigerated body, dry box body and platform. The truck isn't actually for sale yet - as the company's goal is to set up for a proper rollout some time before 2020, when battery prices are anticipated to fall. For the time being, owners will use the trucks for 12 months, operating them daily, after which Mercedes will collect the data from the pilot program and use it to further optimize the truck, based on whether or not it can handle daily use and abuse.

  • Ford To Roll Out New Electric SUV With 300-Mile Range

Ford's five year plan includes 13 electric vehicles, including hybrid variants of the iconic Mustang and their long running F-150 pickup truck. But the Michigan motor company will also product fully electric vehicles in that bunch, including a SUV with a proposed 300-mile range. Currently Ford only has a single fully electric vehicle in their lineup, the 2017 Focus Electric. But the 115-mile range from the Focus is limiting for those seeking to take their electric rides out for a road trip.

  • 500-Mile-Range Tesla? Elon Musk Says 'Less Than 10 Years'

Would you consider an electric car as your main mode of transportation if it could go 500 miles on a single charge? According to Tesla founder Elon Musk, such a car is "less than 10 years away." Tesla's current Model S can go 270 miles on a single charge. Compared with other EVs on the market, which average between 80 miles and 100 miles per charge, that figure is pretty impressive. But for Musk, 270 miles is just the starting point.

  • Introducing the new Range Rover Evoque Plug-in Hybrid Electric vehicle

The compact footprint is almost identical at 4.37m, yet built on Land Rover's new Premium Transverse Architecture, there is more interior space than before. A longer wheelbase yields 20mm extra rear kneeroom and an increase in small item stowage - the larger glove box and centre cubby can now fit tablets, handbags and bottles with ease. The luggage space is 10 per cent larger (591 litres) as well as much wider and easily fits a folded pram or set of golf clubs, with space increasing to 1,383 litres when the flexible 40:20:40 second-row seats are folded. The new architecture has been developed for electrification, with a 48-volt mild-hybrid available at launch and a plug-in hybrid model offered around 12 months afterwards. The mild hybrid powertrain is a first for Land Rover and works by harvesting energy normally lost during deceleration thanks to the engine-mounted belt-integrated starter generator, storing it in the under-floor battery. At speeds below 17km/h (11mph), the engine will shut off while the driver applies the brakes. When pulling away, the stored energy is redeployed to assist the engine under acceleration and reduce fuel consumption. The result is a refined, quiet and efficient drive in built-up traffic heavy areas, in addition to efficiency savings.
