Firefighters continue their duties at Rio hospital


Firefighters continue working after a fire erupted in a hospital in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, leaving at least 10 people dead and forcing medical staff and desperate relatives to rescue patients from the smoke-filled wards.

    On Friday, California firefighters confirmed that they had made significant gains against a huge wildfire that chased thousands of people from their homes in Southern California. The fire has currently burnt nearly 58 square miles and was 26 percent contained as it entered its fourth day in mountains 60 miles east of Los Angeles. At the height of the blaze, over 82,000 residents were under evacuation orders, but a small number of evacuees have reportedly been allowed to return home. Plans are also underway to demobilize some of the nearly 1,600 firefighters battling the blaze.

  • Hong Kong Riots Continue, At Least 72 Hospitalized

    Reuters reports Hong Kong riot police and protesters clashed again Thursday after a day of violence over the highly controversial extradition bill that would allow people to be sent to mainland China for trial. Police fired rubber bullets, tear gas and pepper spray this week to get demonstrators to leave the city’s legislature. As of 10pm on Wednesday evening, the Hong Kong Hospital Authority reported 72 people had been hospitalized, including two determined to be serious.

  • China Trade Talks Continue Despite Trump's Tough Talk

    BEIJING/WASHINGTON (Reuters) - China said on Monday that a delegation is still preparing to go to the United States for trade talks, after U.S. President Donald Trump dramatically increased pressure on Beijing to reach a deal, saying he would hike tariffs on Chinese goods this week. Trump’s comments on Sunday marked a major escalation in tensions between the world’s largest economies, and a shift in tone from the president, who as recently as Friday had cited progress toward a deal. Stock markets sank and oil prices tumbled on his remarks, as negotiations to end the months-long trade war were thrown into doubt.

  • Petrochemical Fire Near Houston Extinguished, Firefighters Continue To Monitor

    According to a report by Reuters, on Wednesday, firefighters extinguished a fire at a Mitsui & Co petrochemical storage site outside Houston that has been billowing acrid smoke for days. The blaze at Mitsui unit Intercontinental Terminals Co in Deer Park, Texas, was reportedly put out by 3 a.m., however fire crews continued to spray foam and water on the tanks to help keep them cool and prevent fires from starting again. The company said in a statement that no serious injuries were reported.

  • Tornado In Cuba Kills 3, Injures 172

    On Sunday night a tornado hit the Cuban capital, Havana, leaving three people dead and 172 injured. Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel wrote on Twitter that the damage was "severe." Strong winds damaged buildings and caused flooding in low-lying areas of Havana, says CNN. Locals said the tornado sounded like "a jet engine," and they felt changes in environmental pressure when it hit. Cuba, which sits in the Caribbean Sea, is also vulnerable to hurricanes from June 1 to November 30.

    La règle de base n'a pas changé, il faut rester chez soi. Cependant, Edouard Philippe a apporté un certain nombre de précisions sur les sorties dérogatoires. L'activité physique par exemple, ne peut se faire que dans un rayon d'un kilomètre autour de son domicile et pas plus d'une heure par jour.
