The new GLE Coupé is a further example of the Mercedes-Benz strategy to address all the requirements of customers in the premium-SUV segment in a targeted manner. From a relatively small niche, the segment of SUCs, namely SUV coupés, has developed into a trend within a trend in no time. With the renewal of the premium-SUV family Mercedes-Benz is also putting the GLE Coupé on a new technical footing.Like the GLE and the GLS, as a member of the large premium-SUV family the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé is being built in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. In total Mercedes-Benz now offers eight SUV models in the form of the GLA, GLC, GLC Coupé, the G-Class and the new GLB. With currently around one third of sales, the SUVs are a major structural pillar in the Mercedes-Benz product portfolio, and greatly contribute to the growth of the brand. To date, more than six million customers around the world have opted for a Mercedes-Benz SUV.The modern luxury, elegance and sportiness of a coupé and the robustness of an SUV: that is the design message of the new GLE Coupé. Its proportions with short overhangs and large, flush-mounted wheels and its dynamic greenhouse with the long side-window line exude high value and exclusivity.
Mercedes-Benz has been building special-protection vehicles since 1928 and thus for over 90 years. Customers of the new S 680 GUARD 4MATIC benefit from these many years of experience. The integrated protection system (iSS) reaches a new level: whereas the necessary protective materials were previously integrated into the standard body shell structure for the GUARD saloons, a GUARD-specific body shell of protective elements has now been developed. This self-supporting protective cell represents the core of the iSS. Ultimately, the (aluminium) outer skin serves as a design cover and ensures an inconspicuous appearance. In addition to the armouring, the iSS includes the adaptation of the suspension, engine and transmission to ensure handling that is virtually on a par with that of the production vehicle. Due to a parallel development process alongside the large-scale production models, the longevity of the GUARD vehicles also reaches series production level. In addition to the unseen armouring elements, the transparent area of the windows is an integral and essential part of the protection concept. The material and thickness of the multi-layer glass 'sandwich' meet the high requirements of the VR10 safety classification. The inner surfaces of the glass are coated with polycarbonate for splinter protection. Despite their comprehensive protective effect, they offer excellent visibility. And they have been integrated in such a way that they are not noticeable at first glance - another significant advantage of the integrated protection system.
"For what really counts": Heads of state and business leaders can take this S-Class slogan literally when they entrust their lives to the new special-protection version of the luxury model. Because the new S 680 GUARD 4MATIC (combined fuel consumption (WLTP): 19.5 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions (WLTP): 442 g/km) meets the highest ballistic test level for civilian vehicles and, moreover, is particularly resistant to explosive charges. The certification by the Beschussamt Ulm (ballistic testing authority) was carried out for the first time using so-called biofidelic dummies. These test dummies imitate the human body particularly realistically with bone- and soft tissue-like structures. The S 680 GUARD 4MATIC is the first GUARD saloon from Mercedes-Benz with all-wheel drive and is powered by the familiar V12 (M279) with 450 kW/612 hp. The base price is €457,100 plus value added tax. The S 680 GUARD 4MATIC celebrated its world première at the IAA in Munich.
The EQS is the first all-electric luxury saloon from Mercedes-EQ. With it, Mercedes-EQ is redefining this vehicle segment. The EQS is also the first model to be based on the modular architecture for luxury and executive-class electric vehicles. Fusing technology, design, functionality and connectivity, the EQS delights both drivers and passengers. The first models to come onto the market are the EQS 450+ rated at 245 kW (NEDC combined electrical consumption: 18.9-16.2 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions: 0 g/km) plus the EQS 580 4MATIC rated at 385 kW (NEDC combined electrical consumption: 19.6-17.6 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions: 0 g/km). Fuel consumption acc. to WLTP: EQS 450+ combined electrical consumption 19.8-15.8 kWh/100 km, CO2 emissions 0 g/km; EQS 580 4MATIC combined electrical consumption 21.4-18.3 kWh/100 km, CO2 emissions 0 g/km.
