Tour de France Shut Down Due To Extreme Weather

Description

Chaos ensued at the Tour de France on Friday as organizers abruptly stopped the race due to extreme weather. The uncharacteristic conditions appeared to include an ice storm, snow on the roads, and a landslide just ahead of the riders. Business Insider reports that Colombian rider Egan Bernal was in the lead when the stage was canceled. Bernal was also the new virtual leader of the three-week Tour, having distanced himself from Julian Alaphilippe of France. Organizers said there would be no stage winner and that each rider's time atop the Col d'Iseran would be their official stage time. There were no reports of injuries during the storm.
