Forty-six years after Roe v. Wade, the historic US Supreme Court decision recognising the right to abortion, the issue continues to bitterly divide public opinion in the United States. Already undermined by local policies, this fundamental right is now threatened at the federal level, following the appointment of two conservative judges to the Supreme Court.     According to FiveThirtyEight President Trump has narrowed down his Supreme Court justice shortlist. Trump said the list is down to “about five” candidates. That includes two women. Trump said he will announce his nominee to replace the retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy on July 9. Democrats have promised to do everything they can to block the picks. However, the GOP have a majority in the Senate. Mitch McConnell, Senate majority leader, said the Senate will seat the pick in the fall.

  • U.S. Abortion Rate At Lowest Level Since "Roe V. Wade"

    Abortion rates across the United States have plunged to their lowest level since the controversial Roe V. Wade Supreme Court decision in 1973, according to a new report. The report by the Guttmacher Institute, a research group that supports legalized abortion, recorded a rate of 14.6 abortions per 1,000 women of childbearing age in 2014 — the most recent year with data available.
