Incomparably fast, light, extreme. With its Bugatti Bolide1 presented a few weeks ago, the French luxury brand is once again pushing the boundaries of what is physically possible. Never before has Bugatti designed such an uncompromising vehicle, focused solely on the race track. The Bugatti Bolide serves as an experimental design study and a carrier of technological expertise: designers and engineers created and developed the real, drivable concept vehicle in less than one year, using new materials and manufacturing processes that were proven to be reliable with both real and virtual testing laps. They simulated maximum loads, acceleration times and lap times in the virtual environment.
The 8.0-liter W16 engine has been propelling Bugatti’s hyper sports cars for almost 20 years. The only 16-cylinder engine in the world to be used in a car, it is a veritable engineering masterpiece that has become an icon in its own right. When Bugatti published the first technical details about the engine for the Veyron 16.4 in 2005, it instantly changed the game. It was sensational. Never before had a production vehicle featured an engine which was so powerful, yet so compact and able to cruise as easily as it could obliterate acceleration records. Its power output was unparalleled at the time; acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds and a top speed of over 400 km/h. When the Veyron 16.4 went into production, it marked a pioneering achievement for Bugatti, and established an entirely new class of car in the process – the Veyron was the world’s first hyper sports car. And it wouldn’t have been possible without the W16.
The new hyper sports car is undergoing its final handling tests at the Nürburgring before the chassis control software responsible for steering, dampers and ESC is locked in. From this point until the start of production, all systems are checked whether they work together correctly in the stress test. The engineers pay attention to the overall impression: “It's extremely important to us for the Chiron Pur Sport customer to instantly sense the much more radical approach we’re taking with this car in terms of driving dynamics. With its unusual topography, numerous bends and the high-speed section from Döttinger Höhe onwards, the Nordschleife is very demanding for both driver and vehicle so it’s ideal for our new car, which is streamlined for agility and speed,” says Stefan Ellrott, Head of Development at Bugatti. “This is why we’re running the final tests for fine-tuning the suspension and safety systems here in the Eifel. In addition to driving on the track, we also go out on the motorways and public roads around the Nürburgring, since there are lots of roads with curves and hills here. We are really satisfied with the results of our work.”

By contrast with the Chiron Super Sport 300+, the record-breaking car that exceeded the threshold of 300 miles per hour for the first time, the Chiron Pur Sport focuses on extraordinary, tangible performance throughout the entire range of speeds."We spoke to customers and realised they wanted a vehicle that is geared even more towards agility and dynamic cornering. It's the most uncompromising yet agile Bugatti of recent times."
