    People took to the streets of Puerto Rico, demanding Governor Ricardo Rosselló step down. This came after the release of profane chat messages and federal corruption charges against two former administration officials. Rosselló decided to resign and will nominate former Rep. Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia as his successor. According to Reuters, Pierluisi Urrutia must still be approved by Puerto Rican lawmakers. Pierluisi Urrutia currently works as a corporate lawyer for Washington law firm O’Neill & Borges.

    Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló has named Pedro Pierluisi as his new secretary of state, says Reuters. Pierluisi is the island’s former representative in the U.S. Congress. Pierluisi will be next in line to succeed Roselló when he steps down on Friday, August 2. Last week Roselló announced he'd be stepping down after he faced public outrage and mass street protests. Secretary of State Luis Rivera Marin would have been first in line to assume the office, but he resigned on July 13.
