  • Tour de France Shut Down Due To Extreme Weather

    Chaos ensued at the Tour de France on Friday as organizers abruptly stopped the race due to extreme weather. The uncharacteristic conditions appeared to include an ice storm, snow on the roads, and a landslide just ahead of the riders. Business Insider reports that Colombian rider Egan Bernal was in the lead when the stage was canceled. Bernal was also the new virtual leader of the three-week Tour, having distanced himself from Julian Alaphilippe of France. Organizers said there would be no stage winner and that each rider's time atop the Col d'Iseran would be their official stage time. There were no reports of injuries during the storm.

  • Democrats Debate Dilemma

    The July DNC Debates are around the corner and Democrats have a dilemma. 21 candidates have passed a modest qualification threshold for the July debates. The candidates have either hitting 1 percent in three qualifying polls or getting 65,000 donors. That’s one more candidate than the Democratic National Committee has said it will allow on stage across the two nights. Someone has to get cut. The DNC’s tiebreakers prioritize candidates who hit both the polling and financial thresholds. That's followed by candidates who only have the polling benchmark, sorted by poll average, and then candidates who have hit only the donor mark. So far, 14 candidates have passed the threshold and 7 are left to duke it out for six spots.

  • Fundraising Surges For Democratic Candidates After Debates

    Politico reports the Democratic digital fundraising platform ActBlue raised $6.9 million on Thursday following the second night of the Democratic primary debates. The fundraising haul marked the party’s biggest day in more than two months. California Sen. Kamala Harris' spokesperson said she raised more money on Thursday than any other day since her first campaign rally. A campaign aide for New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker said he brought in more donors on Wednesday than any day except his launch.
