Azerbaijan's army said Friday it had entered the district of Aghdam, the first of three to be handed back by Armenia as part of a Russian-brokered peace deal to end fighting in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. IMAGES

Houses are seen burning in the town of Lachin (Berdzor in Armenian), as Armenia is to hand back the district to Azerbaijan Tuesday as part of a peace deal that ended six weeks of fighting over the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh. IMAGES
On the side of the unrecognized Republic of Artsakh, a few Armenian soldiers set up a border checkpoint beside the village of Charektar (Kelbajar district), abandoned by Armenian civilians. Here, the road to Kelbajar district is blocked by a first-line checkpoint. For civilians the road to Kelbajar district is closed by a second checkpoint on the border of the village of Getavan (Martakert district). IMAGES
An Armenian military convoy is seen crossing the Kalbajar district ahead of its handover to Azerbaijan. Armenia is set to handover the Kalbajar district wedged between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia on November 25 and the Lachin district by December 1, as part of a Russian-brokered peace deal to end weeks of brutal fighting in the region.
