Several Gorillas Test Positive For COVID At San Diego Zoo

Description

Several gorillas at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park have tested positive for the coronavirus. This is believed to be the first known cases among such primates in the US and possibly the world. The park’s executive director, Lisa Peterson, said eight gorillas are positive for the virus. All the gorillas live together at the park and several have been coughing, reports HuffPost. It appears the infection came from a member of the park’s wildlife care team. Carers have tested positive for the virus but have been asymptomatic.

  • Hospital Air Samples Test Positive For COVID-19

One in four air samples collected from hospital intensive care units tested positive for COVID-19. The virus particles linger after they treat infected patients, says UPI. 450 air samples were obtained "from close patient environments" and were evaluated. Just over 17% tested for virus contamination came back positive, the data showed. The highest virus concentrations were found in toilets and bathrooms at 25%. Staff areas and public hallways were also high and should be "carefully considered" for stronger cleaning.

The order goes into effect Sunday at 11:59 p.m. PT for the some 27 million people in the regions, which includes Los Angeles and San Diego. That follows a proactive order issued by six San Francisco Bay Area jurisdictions on Friday for its almost 6 million residents.
