White House coronavirus task force member Dr. Anthony Fauci says the rate of vaccinations against COVID-19 should speed up soon. Business Insider reports Fauci told ABC News' Martha Raddatz on Sunday there's no reason why the US can't immunize 1 million people per day right now. If so, it would put the country on track to meet President-elect Joe Biden's goal of vaccinating 100 million people in his first 100 days in office. Fauci said that herd immunity in around 75% to 90% of the population might be achieved by the end of summer or early fall. According to Business Insider, he explained that his estimate could vary, based on how many people choose to get vaccinated.
Top US officials should get the COVID-19 vaccine right away, according to infectious disease experts. Dr. Anthony Fauci says Biden and Harris should get vaccinated "for security reasons." Biden has previously stated that he will take the vaccine once Fauci gives the go-ahead. Fauci also said Trump should be vaccinated, despite potentially developing antibodies. He referred to Trump's receiving of the vaccine as a way to be "doubly sure", says Business Insider.

Fauci said they discussed “a variety of Covid-related topics.” Fauci said he has spoken previously with Biden's incoming White House chief of staff, Ron Klain. Fauci added that his Thursday meeting will likely be the first of a series of transition meetings with the team. He also said he fully expects to remain in his role as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Anthony Fauci said that there was "no appetite" for lockdowns in the US. He said steps like wearing masks and social distancing could be enough to control the pandemic. Fauci appeared on "Good Morning America" on Thursday. "You don't have to take that step that people are trying to avoid." According to Business Insider Joe Biden's COVID-19 advisor recommended a national lockdown that could last between four to six weeks.
Pres. Donald Trump and Dr. Anthony Fauci are on course for another, very public battle. According to CNN, Fauci questioned why Trump thinks mask wearing is weak. Fauci is the world's leading infectious disease specialist. He and the President are arguing as the pandemic begins the feared fall & winter spike. Trump has slammed Fauci repeatedly. Early in the pandemic Fauci said mask wearing was not necessary. "Let's see if we could put this to rest once and for all," Fauci said. "Cloth coverings work."
