EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell calls for a ceasefire in the conflict raging between Israelis and Palestinians. "The purpose is to protect civilians and to give full humanitarian access in Gaza," he says after chairing a virtual meeting of EU foreign ministers. SOUNDBITE
EU foreign ministers meet in Luxembourg, with Israel's conflict with Hamas at the top of the agenda. EU foreign police chief Josep Borrell urged faster aid deliveries to the besieged Gaza Strip, saying that the few dozen trucks of humanitarian aid that had been allowed into the enclave from Egypt were not enough. Borrell added that the bloc was debating calling for a humanitarian pause in the conflict. IMAGES
Josep Borrell, the EU foreign policy chief, holds a speech in Bruges to inaugurate the European Diplomatic Academy. "Europe is a garden," he says, praising the "combination of political freedom, economic prosperity and social cohesion". The EU's foreign policy chief says he is hopeful the Iran nuclear deal could be revived after receiving "reasonable" responses to his proposed text from Iran and the United States. "I am hoping that in the coming days we are not going to lose this momentum and we can close the deal" says Josep Borrell, at an informal meeing of EU foreign ministers in Prague. SOUNDBITE
