Bangkok, Jul 20 (EFE/EPA).- Thailand has tightened lockdown measures for 13 high-risk provinces, including Bangkok, in order to curb a surge in COVID-19 cases that spiked in recent weeks. Starting on 20 July 2021, with strict health measures, people are not allowed to go outdoors unless necessary, movements in the high-risk provinces will be restricted and shopping malls will stay closed. People are encouraged to work from home and dine-in services at restaurants are banned. Hundreds of construction sites will also close. Supermarkets and pharmacies will stay open until 8pm, with a curfew starting from 9pm to 4am. In what Italy's prime minister said was 'not an easy decision,' PM Giuseppe Conte has put the country on lockdown for the holidays. Business Insider reports Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte told reporters that experts fear there will be a jump in COVID-19 cases over Christmas. Italy wasn't the only European country to tighten restrictions over the holidays — the UK and Germany have both announced heightened coronavirus restrictions.
