"Fifty years ago this week, one of the most remarkable talents in the whole history of professional tennis won his final grand slam at the US Open. To celebrate the start of the 2018 tournament, we took living legend Rod Laver for a spin in the 911 GT3RS. And who better to do the wheel work than our own former world champion and fellow Australian Mark Webber? Laver won 11 Grand Slams and an astonishing 200 singles titles in his career. He is also the only man to have achieved a clean sweep of slams in a single year in the Open era. Physically slight and a relatively modest 5ft 8” in height, he nevertheless dominated the pro and amateur international tennis scene for the best part of a decade, displaying what many experts regarded as the perfect serve-and-volley technique, backed up by a lethal left-handed serve and typical antipodean tenacity."
The Porsche GT Team was rewarded for a strong performance with a place on the podium at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Under difficult conditions on the Daytona International Speedway, the two Porsche 911 RSR racers achieved positions three and five. The sports cars from Weissach had clearly dominated the first half of the long-distance classic. However, heavy rain, numerous caution phases, interruptions and incidents threw the two factory cars in the legendary Brumos design into a rainy game of chance in the final hours. The new Porsche 911 GT3 R achieved eighth place at its race debut. Heading into the race on Saturday afternoon (local time) in dry conditions, Nick Tandy (Great Britain) made perfect use of his pole position, with the No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR holding the lead over many laps. His French teammates Patrick Pilet and Frédéric Makowiecki retained the top spot into the night. Torrential rain early on Sunday morning proved to be a watershed moment in a perfect race. With deep water on the track, the 911 of the polesitter fell back into fifth place.
Further showcasing the exceptional performance capability of the motorsport-derived 911 GT lineup, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS recorded an impressive lap time of 1:26.24 minutes at the same track and thus became the second car to break the previous record.

The Porsche motorsport department is presenting Weissach’s latest treat at the Geneva Motor Show: the 911 GT3 RS with motorsport chassis and 383-kW (520-hp), four-litre, high-speed naturally aspirated engine. The new high-performance sports car is based on the 911 GT3, which has been refined still further to combine the performance-enhanced engine with a running-gear setup that features re-calibrated rear axle steering designed for maximum dynamics and precision. The 911 GT3 RS accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, reaching a top speed of 312 km/h. Following the launch of the 911 GT3 and the 911 GT2 RS, this latest release will see Porsche present its third GT road-approved sports car within a year.
