The novel coronavirus pandemic is having an enormous impact on the mental health of America's senior citizens. Now, a nationwide survey reveals more than 60% of seniors with depression in the United States won't seek treatment for their condition. UPI reports genetic testing company Myriad Neuroscience says one-third of 1500 adults 65 and older surveyed believe they can 'snap out' of it on their own. The 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps' mindset of some seniors and reluctance to talk about mental health are hindering them from getting the help they need. Dr. Mark Pollack Chief medical officer, Myriad Neuroscience Among the older respondents, 30% described depression as a normal part of aging. One in three said the symptoms affected aspects of their lives, and one in four said the condition impacts their overall health.

Israel has far outpaced the rest of the world with its vaccination campaign. In fact, it has already administered the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine to about one in five of its citizens. Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu announced a deal with Pfizer to secure enough doses to immunize its adult population by the end of March.

Business Insider reports Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte told reporters that experts fear there will be a jump in COVID-19 cases over Christmas. Italy wasn't the only European country to tighten restrictions over the holidays — the UK and Germany have both announced heightened coronavirus restrictions. Johns Hopkins University data reports that as of Saturday, Italy had recorded over 1.9 million confirmed cases of coronavirus since the pandemic began. Thus far, nearly 68,000 deaths from COVID-19 have been reported in Italy.
