Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch has publicly thanked workers of Britain's National Health Service for vaccinating him against COVID-19. This, as Fox News personality Tucker Carlson urged his audience to look at the vaccine with skepticism. According to Business Insider, Carlson said on 'Tucker Carlson Tonight' Thursday, the vaccine 'feels false, because it is. It's too slick' Meanwhile, Murdoch, 89, and his wife Jerry Hall Murdoch, have been isolating at their home in Oxfordshire, England, for most of the pandemic. Interpol has warned that criminal organizations are planning to infiltrate or disrupt supply chains related to COVID-19 vaccines. But that's not the only way bad guys might try to cash in on the coming global vaccine bonanza. According to Business Insider, groups may try to sell counterfeit or expired vaccines, on a small-scale or a large-scale basis. Criminals may also try to 'sell' vaccines online, in an attempt to steal personal data and credit card numbers. They may also try to extort companies, or hold supply chains hostage in return for ransom money. Finally, they could do a better job than governments at vaccinating neighborhoods, thereby installing themselves as a semi-legitimate, parallel government.
Michael Osterholm is the director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota. And according to HuffPost, he has a grim prognostication for the next six to 12 weeks, saying they're going to be 'the darkest of the entire pandemic.' HuffPost says Osterholm points to the daily tally of 70,000 new COVID-19 cases in the US on Friday, which is the highest level since July. He said that between now and the holidays, the number of COVID-19 cases in the US will likely 'blow right through that.' Speaking on NBC's 'Meet the Press' on Sunday, Osterholm said he was troubled by the US's lack of a leading voice to guide the public. Vaccines will not become available in any meaningful way until early to the third quarter of next year. And even then, about half of the U.S. population at this point is skeptical of even taking the vaccine.
